INSPIRED PUPPETRY GIVES OLD TALES NEW TUG
(excerpt)
October 20, 1995, Susan Whitney, Deseret News

Night of the Doll, a series of six scenes from theater of different countries, different centuries, is an evening of puppetry.

Atkinson says puppets engage the imagination in a different way. You find yourself adding emotion to the puppet's character. You did it when you were a child, supplied emotion to dolls in order to tell a story. You haven't lost the capability, Atkinson believes.

The actors take turns manipulating puppets and acting out roles. They literally run from one scene to another.

The fact that this is a fledgling theater company is most evident in the setting - not in the material, nor in the skill of the actors, nor in the construction of the puppets. There are a few jarring notes: a curtain doesn't draw, the door handles are visible on the backdrop, the theater itself is difficult to find.

Plan-B is a new company using classic material to create fascinatingly fresh entertainment.
